The entire PFP-IDE team is thrilled to announce the spring 2018 fellow/ host pairs that have been selected to participate in the Outbound Program. Those selected will receive funding so as to accommodate the host flying to their fellow’s home country to help provide logistical and technical support in the implementation of their follow- on project. Hosts will spend two weeks in country and will be departing in the coming months.
- Dr Julie Christensen, Director of the University of Iowa Center for Disabilities and Development, will be traveling to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to work with Novath Rukwago. She will be assisting in his project ‘Initiative for Partnerships in Promoting Inclusive Disability Employment.’ This project focuses on capacity building and incorporates aspects of policy analysis, systems change, and developing partnerships.
- Dr Jerry Alliston, Interim Associate Director at the Institute for Disability Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi, will be traveling to Nairobi, Kenya to work with Vincent Ogutu. He will be assisting in Vincent’s project, ‘EmployAble.’ The primary purpose of the project is to enhance the transition of youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities ages 18-35 in inclusive vocational training centers/ apprenticeship centers.
- Dr Evan Dean, Associate Researcher at Kansas University Center on Developmental Disabilities, will be traveling to Nairobi, Kenya, to work with Stephen Areba. He will be providing implementation assistance for Stephen’s project entitled ‘Promoting Inclusive Disability Employment through Capacity Development and Community Engagement in Dadaab, Kenya.’ This project will provide a myriad of inclusive employment services in one of the largest refugee complexes in the world.
- Dr Megan Peters, Director of Education and Training for the Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics section of the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, will be traveling to Kampala, Uganda, to work with Hassan Waddimba. Here she will be sharing her expertise in the birth of the project ‘Building Sustainable Collaborations to Promote Long-term Employment of Persons with Disabilities in Uganda.’ Dr Peters is also very excited to collaborate with the other two Ugandan PFP-IDE fellows, Sylivia Karungi and Ronald Kasule.
