Truphosah Fridah Monah will be spending her fellowship at The Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE).
The Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) is the only national organization in the United States that focuses solely on disability employment. It was created and maintained in collaboration with the Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) and the Harkin Institute, a policy research center founded by retired Senator Tom Harkin, who co-sponsored the American with Disabilities Act and spearheaded the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
Located in Rockville, Maryland, APSE is only a few kilometers away from Washington D.C. and uses its expertise, connections, and placement to exert influence over inclusive employment policies in government. Focus areas and resources at the center that will be highlighted for Daniel include job coaching and development, outreach to businesses, and engaging with policymakers at the state and national levels.
Julie Christensen will be Daniel’s host. She is the Director of Policy and Advocacy at APSE and a veteran of the PFP-IDE Program who mentored two former fellows from Tanzania, Novath Rukwago and Raphael Mwambalaswa at her previous position at the University of Iowa last year. She also has field experience advising an inclusive employment project in East Africa, having visited Tanzania to work with her mentee, Novath with his fellowship project last year. She is excited to be hosting Daniel.
