Daniel Donald Ododah Omingo is a System Strengthening and Sustainability Advisor at Catholic Relief Services in Migori, Kenya. Donald works with Kenya’s national and county governments to promote inclusion at the community level. He provides technical guidance to both nonprofit and public sector programs that support persons with disabilities and other marginalized community members in Migori County, which is located in Southwest Kenya, along the border with Tanzania. As a technical adviser, Donald is skilled at informing local governments about how to engage persons with disabilities and strive towards community inclusion. He draws from lived experience as a person with a disability in his work for inclusive employment.
Donald will create an advocacy coalition that will raise employers’ and government officials’ awareness about inclusive employment and strengthen public understanding of disability rights among persons with disabilities in Western Kenya, who are often unaware of their civil rights. He will use his connections to create a coalition of local disability rights advocates, government officials and international development organizations that play a major role in the region. Donald hopes to learn disability advocacy strategies from the U.S. that he can use in strategic meetings, presentations and other events he will conduct through the project.
